CHAWK's third One-Mile Family Fitness Fun Run & Walk drew 85 people on Friday, June 2, despite the threat of rain throughout the day.

After on-site registrations were completed, P.E. teacher Dan Pototsky led a stretching clinic under shelter of one of the backyard's trees. There were a few drops of rain, but after that, the sky cleared.

School Board Chair Dave Foster came to lend support, and Board member Ed Fendley participated in the race with his son. Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Alvin Crawley also took part with his son.

At 6:40, parent Keith Eddins called the participants together. Mr. Miranda then greeted the group and readied the children and adults to start the course.

Course participants ran and walked five times around a pre-set loop. The children received a hand stamp each time they completed one loop. Every child who finished the course received a CHAWK water bottle and a jump rope. Participants enjoyed an assortment of Clif bars donated by Whole Foods, as well as watermelon and bananas donated by Safeway.

After the race, children played with sports equipment and ran through a sprinkler on the playground, while adults chatted; several families set up picnic blankets on the lawn and ate supper.

Thank you to all of our wonderful participants for coming out to enjoy the fun run and walk. Thank you to Mr. Miranda for leading the race and lending his support, and to Mrs. Miranda for her help, too. Thank you to our volunteers-Keith Eddins, Denise Magner, Terri Pilkerton, Stacy Porro, Carol Schadelbauer, and Carol Spicer. Thank you to Ashlawn's PTA for a generous donation that allowed us to purchase and distribute the CHAWK water bottles and the jump ropes. And thank you to Dan Pototsky for all his support. You can see photos of the run next week (thanks to Nancy Davis's loan of her camera) on the website as well as on the CHAWKboard at Ashlawn.
